1.
Using cats and mice as a
metaphor for Jews and people from the Nazi party is very effective in the novel
The Complete Maus. It is effective because:
·
The cat is stronger then the
mouse.
·
The Nazi party is bigger and
stronger then the amount of Jews.
·
It helps denote that the Jews
are the mice and the Nazis are the cats.
·
It is less successful in the
way of affecting the reader’s emotions by using animals.
·
Mice are seen to be pests as
were the Jews by the Nazi party.
·
Mice are experimented on, as
were the Jews.
·
The Nazis chased the Jews like
cats do mouse.
·
Cats were stubborn so were the
Nazi Party.
·
Mouse are dirty and eat very
little meaning the Jews in the ghettoes and cats are always clean and eat a
fair amount meaning the Nazis.

In this case, humans are nothing
more than animals as it shows how the Jews were treated like animals and how it
was inhumane. This is evident throughout the storyline of the novel and is why
we agree to Spiegelman’s comment. Adolf Hitler the leader of the Nazi Party
says that “The Jews are undoubtedly a race, but they are not human.” this also
supports Spiegelman’s point that humans are “nothing but animals.”
