Conflict

Write a paragraph in which you discuss the way that the conflict between the Capulets and Montagues contributes to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Use two quotations, one within a sentence and one longer one which you introduce properly. Make sure your paragraph also has a good topic sentence.

In William Shakespeare's love tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, The Capulets and The Montague's conflict and differences make an effect on their children's lives and contribute to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. "See what a courage is laid upon your hate..." (5. 3. 290) These words spoken come from Friar Lawrence as he speaks his thoughts about the conflict between The Montague's and The Capulets and blames their families differences and hate for each other on the death of both Juliet and Romeo. He's stating that without their differences, this tragedy would have never taken place. We get this understanding through the use of dialogue to get a sense of the conflict shown. "Then love-devoding death do what he dove, it is enough i may but call her mine..." (2. 6. 7-9) This is Romeo stating that after seeing Juliet, he wants her to be his and that even though she's a Capulet and he is a Montague, they'll try to make it work or die trying. There deaths would have never had to occur if not for the conflict between their families because they wouldn't have needed a reason to hide their love from their families. Conflict between The Montague and The Capulet made a huge impact on the deaths of Romeo and Juliet and wouldn't have needed to arise if not for there differences.
