Conflict

Write a paragraph in which you discuss the way that the conflict between the Capulets and Montagues contributes to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Use two quotations, one within a sentence and one longer one which you introduce properly. Make sure your paragraph also has a good topic sentence.

In William Shakespeare's love tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, The Capulets and The Montague's conflict and differences make an effect on their children's lives and contribute to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. "See what a courage is laid upon your hate..." (5. 3. 290) These words spoken come from Friar Lawrence as he speaks his thoughts about the conflict between The Montague's and The Capulets and blames their families differences and hate for each other on the death of both Juliet and Romeo. He's stating that without their differences, this tragedy would have never taken place. We get this understanding through the use of dialogue to get a sense of the conflict shown. "Then love-devoding death do what he dove, it is enough i may but call her mine..." (2. 6. 7-9) This is Romeo stating that after seeing Juliet, he wants her to be his and that even though she's a Capulet and he is a Montague, they'll try to make it work or die trying. There deaths would have never had to occur if not for the conflict between their families because they wouldn't have needed a reason to hide their love from their families. Conflict between The Montague and The Capulet made a huge impact on the deaths of Romeo and Juliet and wouldn't have needed to arise if not for there differences.

There is no doubt that the story of Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy.

To what extent do you believe that this is caused by how young Romeo and Juliet are? Think about the problems that are caused by their youth and then weigh these against the other issues in deciding your answer.

Romeo and Juliet's love was such a sudden occurrence, you almost think it wasn't real. The first time they laid eye's on one another, they feel helplessly 'in love' with each other. Romeo is a 16 year old boy who apparently loved a girl called Rosalyn before he met Juliet but suddenly changed to loving her as soon as he saw her. Juliet is a 13 year old girl, practically a child who has never loved someone before and then swears she loves Romeo. The fact that they both are so young takes a huge part in their love affair and i think makes me wonder if their love was even real. Since they both are so young, how would they know what love really is if they have nothing to compare it too? How do they know that this 'love' isn't just lust and an obsession for each other? "Then love-devoding death do what he dove, it is enough i may but call her mine..." (2. 6. 7-9) This is Romeo explaining his love for Juliet and him wanting to call her his own. I think they are to young to know what love really is and that their so called 'love' is actually just an obsession and lust after each other.

Write a paragraph in which you argue that fate or miscommunication is to blame for what happens to Romeo and Juliet.

William Shakespeare's famous play, Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story of two young teenagers who fall deeply in love with each other. Their love turns into a obsession over each other and turns into them not being able to live without the other. Throughout the novel, their love is kept a secret because of their families differences and because they are rivalries. Friar Lawrence helps Romeo and Juliet's secret love affair stay quiet and allows them to get married without anyones knowledge. The first time Romeo laid eyes on Juliet, he fell out of love with Rosalyn and in love with the girl before his eyes, Juliet. Their love was discovered so quickly you almost think it's more of an obsession or lust for one other than actually in love. Romeo believed that him and Juliet were destined for each other and that fate brought them together that night at the Capulet's party. Fate however defy's Romeo because when Romeo believes Juliet is dead, he believes fate separated them from each other. "O god, I have ill-divining soul! Me think’s I see thee, no thou art below, as one dead in the bottom of a tomb…” (3. 5. 53-56) Miscommunication also takes a major part in the play Romeo and Juliet. Miscommunication is to fail to communicate adequately. This happens a numerous amount of times throughout the play and plays a huge part in the results of Romeo and Juliet's deaths. “I saw her laid low in her kindred’s vault…” (5. 1. 20) This is the information Balthasar gives to Romeo while he's banished. This ill informed information leads Romeo to believe his love has died and left him broken and alone. This miscommunication then leads to Romeo getting poison to kill himself because he can't live without his love Juliet. If this information however had been correct, both Romeo and Juliet would have never taken their own lives because they both would of known that the other was never dead in the first place. Fate and Miscommunication both contribute to a big part of the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet.

Love?

We have read almost half of the play at this point. Romeo and Juliet have met, vowed their love for each other and married.

Are you convinced that they actually do love each other? If not love, how else might you define it?

Write a paragraph in which you answer these questions and justify your view with evidence from the play, including at least one quotation.

To me, i think Romeo has fallen for her beauty before he's actually fallen in love with her. He lusts after her and this becomes an obsession which they call 'love'. The age also makes me disagree with their love because they are so young and they don't understand what love actually is and they haven't felt this before and have nothing to compare this feeling against. They become obsessed with each other and i think this obsession is taken in the wrong context and makes them believe that they are totally in love with eachother.

Choose one of the characters from Romeo and Juliet and write a paragraph in which you explain who the character is and his or her role in the story. Then answer the following question.

To what extent do you see this person as having some responsibility for the tragedy that occurs? Justify your view by referring specifically to the character's part in the tragedy.

Romeo is a 16 year old boy in the Montague family. He is in love with a girl called Rosalyn but she doesn't love him back and wants nothing to do with him. His friend and cousin force him to attend a party held by the Capulet family, his rivalries. There he meets Juliet and instantly falls in love. Romeo and Juliet have trouble staying together because of their families differences and because Juliet is already betrothed to a man she doesn't want to marry, but their love is stronger than any rivalry of their families. Their love affair leads to two suicides because one couldn't live without the other. It's a tragic love story.

Romeo i tink didn't contribute a lot in the suicides at the end of the story. I think the major people that had a large contribution were the parents of both Romeo and Juliet because of the rivalries between their families and if that just blew over then the two of them wouldn't of felt like they had to hide their love and could express it. Another person who i feel made a massive impact was the priest because he was the one to give Juliet the sleeping potion which lead to everyone believe she was dead and lead to Romeo's death.
